⚜️Seb Fury 1 is a tattoo artist from Germany that leans heavy into script and calligraffiti in his work. He is also the owner of a private tattoo studio in Jena called Downtown Tattoo. For Sebastian graffiti came before tattoo, but out of necessity he focused mainly on calligraffiti because the supplies were more affordable when creating in this style over traditional graffiti where paint could get pretty pricey. He also didn't want to steal his paint. Working in this style allowed to utilize more affordable supplies and it pushed him to focus on his lettering skills that can be seen all throughout his work today. Seb Fury is very active online alongside the tattoos and art pieces he puts out consistently we were curious to see how he does it, so we asked him a few questions:⚜️
-⚜️◼️
-
◼️!. What was art like for you growing up?◼️
⚜️Sebastian started drawing tiny characters when he was young in school. He used to do cartoons a lot but destroyed nearly all his drawings by leaving them in his family's basement where they rotted away. He is a self taught artist that learned by studying comics and doing character studies.⚜️

◼️2. What got you into doing tattoo and did you apprentice?◼️
⚜️Sebastian became interested in tattoo after visiting his first tattoo shop when he was 18 years old, the legal age in Germany where one can get a tattoo without parental approval. There he was given sheets for lettering, and he learned how to set up for tattoos. He regrets not starting with an apprenticeship and believes that if he did it would have saved a lot of time.⚜️
⚜️" I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but I just wanted to learn the craft. I didn't plan on becoming a tattoo artist, but it happened. I started visiting tattoo artists and talking to them to absorb as much information as I could like a sponge. It took so long, and I made so many mistakes from the beginning. I think with an apprenticeship I would have come further along as a tattoo artist in less time."⚜️

◼️3. What got you into graffiti and letters?◼️
-⚜️Sebastian started painting before tattoo. He saw graffiti all around the village he grew up in and was inspired to start so he went out to buy spray paint but found it to be too expensive and he didn't want to steal it. So, he focused more on calligraffiti which allowed him to use cheaper supplies instead of the designer spray paint cans which can get a pricey. This pushed him to focus on his lettering abilities which can be seen throughout his work today.⚜️

◼️4. On your bad days how do you stay motivated?◼️
⚜️SebFury says that for tattoo going to tattoo conventions help with inspiring him artistically by being able to connect with so many different artists and people.⚜️
⚜️"You meet so many talented artists and you get connections from all around the world."⚜️ -Sebastian Herring

◼️5. Do you have any advice to beginners? ◼️
⚜️"Get an apprenticeship. There is no house that is built without the fundamentals."⚜️ -Sebastian Herring (Seb Fury 1)

-
◼️6. Are there any tools or art supplies that you wish you knew about or had when you first started? Any Favorite brands?◼️
⚜️Sebastian recommends using cartridges for tattoo. His favorites in particular are the Cheyenne cartridges. He likes them for the fact that it allows him to downsize on how many supplies and needles he needs to take to conventions. The versatility of it makes life easier.⚜️

◼️7. Is there anything you wish you knew about prior to starting your own business? Something you would have told your younger self to be aware of.◼️
⚜️"Time management and save for my old age so I can focus more on business."⚜️
