Jozzy is a tattoo artist from New York and the owner of J.C. Tattoo Co. She is also on season 15 of Ink Masters. We were fortunate enough to ask her a few questions and her responses were solid, the reflection of a humble artist and a strong leader. Ink Masters is available on Paramount +

◼️1. What was art like for you growing up?
-
For me art growing up was something I sought out constantly. I was always so intrigued by different forms of art. Sculpting, graff and anything art.
-
◼️2. What started your love for calligraphy and graffiti?
-
My love for calligraphy and graffiti came from my love for letters overall. I love how the body of a letter can make you feel whatever it is that's being said. Is it strong and eager? Is it soft and smooth?
-
-
◼️3. On your bad days how do you stay motivated?
-
I really like to tap into myself. I like to disconnect from the world and drown myself in things that inspire me. I'll read interesting things, challenge my brain, and listen to music.
-
-
◼️4. As a tattoo shop owner, do you have any advice for other artists looking to open their own businesses? Something you wish someone would've told you when you were just starting out.
-
My advice to anyone would be to make sure you're prepared for the possibility of downfall. Create an environment people feel safe and comfortable to work in. Create a space where people can openly be creative and have fun overall.
-
-
5. As an artist what advice would you give to your younger self?
-
I would tell myself to study more and learn different styles of art. Even the ones I may not have an interest in. I'd become more well-rounded overall.
-
6. Were stoked to see you on Ink Masters. Is there anything you're most excited for that has happened inside or outside of the competition? like for example: new ideas, new art supplies or tools, new places or friendships created?
-
Ink Masters was one of the most insane experiences of my entire career. I learned so much about myself, and my true ability to adapt. I made amazing friends, and I believe I learned so much about my work. I can't wait to grow from all I learned.
-
7. Are there any art supplies or tools that you use today that you wish you knew about or had when you first started as a tattoo artist or for calligraphy?
-
As a calligraphy artist I use to study all of my favorite artist's work. I'd zoom in on pictures of their brushes or paints in the corner. Molotow is my go-to for all painting and my brushes vary depending.
